    Goodmiles x HOKA: Carey Grafwallner

    Introduce yourself:

Carey: My name is Carey Grafwallner! I'm a cross-country & track coach and owner of CMG Running. I've been going to Goodmiles since July of 2023.

What brought you to Goodmiles Running Company?

Carey: Originally what brought me in is when I saw an opening position available to be the Group Run Leader at the Brookfield location. And I've been going to Goodmiles ever since!

How is the store different from other retailers in your area?

Carey: Goodmiles is different than other retailers in my area because it's employees not only really know the shoes they're selling, but they also know feet and how to get the best fit for each person's needs.

What’s one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had with Goodmiles?

Carey: I really enjoyed the summer party held at The Rock in Franklin that my family came to with me because I got to meet a lot of the other employees and family members. And I also loved working the weekend of the Lakefront Marathon. As a Badgerland Strider and someone who has run LFM twice, I was beyond excited for all of those who were racing that weekend and feeling all the feels!

    Why do you love HOKA?

Carey:  HOKA was a brand that I tried for my running shoes probably over 5 years ago now and I'm looking forward to trying out some of their carbon plated shoes. They are good for people who have issues with their feet, particularly plantar fasciitis and have helped relieve symptoms of PF in people.

What is it important to you to give back to your community?

Carey:  One thing I enjoy is volunteering at races. It's important to give back because as they say, it takes a village. I've run more races than I'll ever know (I started running before the internet existed!) so it's good to give back and give others a great experience. I want other people to enjoy this sport that has given me so much.

What is a Goodmile to you?

Carey:  A Goodmile to me is one that feels easy even when I'm running at a faster pace. Not every run is great, but I sure do love the ones that have a Goodmile in them.

Tips for people who want to start running & training long distances?

Carey: You want to increase your mileage each week slowly and allow cut back weeks every fourth week or so. If you're brand new to the sport it's okay to begin with a run/walk program. You'll also want to incorporate strength training to keep your muscles strong, imbalances in check, and help prevent injuries.

Anything else you would love to share with us?

Carey:  A good pair of running shoes can make all the difference in your runs. If you have the wrong pair, fit, or size, you'll know it after a run or two and can end up with black toenails, blisters, and sometimes even develop an injury. It's important to get fitted properly for the right pair of shoes from the start.
